Solomon Islands

Species:

In the Solomon Islands, a country made up of a number of islands, stands of tropical hardwoods have been growing since World War II in Guadacanal, the main island. In other locations untouched by the War, stands are much older.

Jobs -- The timber industry is a major source of gross national product, but has previously suffered from lack of equipment, capital and fragmentation. In a joint effort by the Government and Superhardwoods SA, these problems are being addressed, with the main goal of creating as many good jobs as possible domestically.

Superhardwoods SA is working with the central Government to provide a holistic solution to production and reforestation from the beginning. The introduction of modern equipment and forestry methods will enhance sustainable yields of hardwood products for export. As part of the package, reforestation and agroreforestation will provide renewable resources for future generations.
