Brazil has a very large and sophisticated timber industry. Our main export is railroad ties in Mora (Mora excelsa) and Angelim Vermelho (Dinizia excelsa). Both are superior railroad tie materials of the highest density.

These species and Quebracho are so dense and resistant to insect attack, that they are not treated. Treating will not penetrate the surface. Service life is 50 to 60 years in wet, jungle conditions, and even longer in the desert.
